This is an exceptional example of an antique 1890s Victorian black velvet cape.

The exterior is made from deep, rich, black silk velvet and the interior is lined in black silk satin. Ruffled black netting, about 3” wide, encircles the shoulder area.

Two 3” wide black satin ribbon bows decorate the collar at the center back, with a third bow below that. A single matching bow, but with long streamers, is placed at the center front at the top hook and eye closure.

There are three opposing sets of hooks and eyes that form the closure and all are present except for a single metal eye on the lower set.

The standing high neck collar is made with velvet half circle tabs and the interior is lined with netting.

And lastly, there are 5 large black beaded medallions.

A truly exquisite item of Victorian outerwear and desirable for collectors, steampunk, reenactors, and goth.

Measurements: Length: 21” (from top of collar to hem) Sweep: 202”

Condition:  The condition is excellent. I found only 4 small breaks in the black satin lining, the largest is about 2” long in the area just below the center back neckline. These are breaks, not holes, and are difficult to see. As far as I can tell, the satin ribbons and the netting are intact as are the beaded medallions. Both the velvet and satin are supple and strong.
