Fuchsia Velvet Antique Hat 1910s 1920s

Dating from about 1915 to the early 1920s, this great antique hat is made of bright fuchsia pink velvet.  It has a soft crown and stiff brim with a wired edge, turned up in the center front and back.  A heavy 2” wide metallic ribbon hatband is pinned around the base.  There is a black drawn lining.

A sweet and quite wearable antique hat very similar to many worn by the actors in Downton Abbey.

Measurements:  Inner circumference measures about 24”

Condition:  Condition is good.  The velvet nap is worn in several places and the metallic threads of the ribbon have age appropriate darkening.  The ribbon hatband is pinned but it is not terribly noticeable.  I don’t know if the ribbon is a later addition, but it looks period.  In one photo, you can see that I placed a large silk millinery rose over the pinned area and it really dresses it up (rose may be available separately).  The black lining has a couple of splits and it looks like the wire on the edge of the brim must have come loose and has been sewn with decorative stitches for stability.
