This elegant vintage brooch by Avon, called Tropical Bird, dates to 1994. It is a book piece and is shown on page 158 of “Identifying Avon Jewelry” by Sandra Sturdivant. It is a beautiful, large pin depicting a bird – possibly a parrot – on a branch. The bird’s belly is a gorgeous green enamel with a hint of blue and the top of the head is plum enamel. The eye is a clear rhinestone and the feathers on its back are bright goldtone with sparkling rhinestones near the shoulder area. The toes clasp a goldtone metal branch. The brooch measures not quite 2” wide and about 2 5/8” long. Signed ©AVON on the back. In excellent condition. All stones are bright and present, the enamel is beautiful, and the rollover clasp is in fine working order.
