This is an exceptional antique Victorian sentimental or mourning hair work brooch. Made of tableworked human hair in two colors – blonde and brown. There is a square knot shaped weave mounted upon a gold plated brooch finding, from which hangs a tiny chain that suspends a beautifully made cross in both the brown and blonde.

Hair work jewelry was extremely popular in the 19th century. Sometimes incorporated into mourning jewelry, but probably more often into simply “sentimental” jewelry human hair is considered to be a very personal memento.

Measurements:  Measures 1 7/8” wide and 2 3/8” long.

Signed:  NO, as expected.  Original T-bar and C-clasp findings. 

Condition:  In very excellent condition. The hair is supple and there are no loose hairs or breaks. Minimal wear to the findings.
