These vintage American Optical 1950s cat eye glasses are so pretty! They feature a sturdy silver tone aluminum frame with etched decorative accents on each corner and front of the arms. The lenses are bifocal glass. They come with a nearly perfect case with snap closure.

Edge to edge across the top of the frame measures 5 ¼”. The arms measure 4” along the bottom of the arm where it attaches to the front to where the ear curve begins. I will be happy to provide any other measurements you require.

One arm reads American Optical with a shield around the AO and 5 ½. The other reads Alum 5 ½. On the back of the main frame, one corner reads Alum 46 and the other reads 46. Across the interior of the nose bridge, it reads 22 AO 12KGF. I believe this probably means that the arms are made of aluminum and the metal piece across the nose bridge is 12k gold filled.

Some photos give the appearance of tinted lenses – they are NOT.

These vintage eyeglasses are in excellent condition. Very clean and sturdy. There are some tiny nicks in the aluminum finish, mostly on the interior so unseen when worn. The clear plastic nose protectors are yellowed appropriately for their age. There is a very light/fine /small scratch in the bifocal area of the left lens. On the interior right, there is scratching around the area where the tiny screws are – I imagine this is from either installing or replacing a lens at some time in the past.
