Shell Cameo Left Facing Woman 800 Silver Surrounded with Marcasite Stones
Left facing carvings of a woman in a cameo are not as common as the right facing ones. This lovely carved shell cameo depicts a woman wearing a headband with feathers. The cameo is bezel set in 800 silver, I think – the stamping isn’t clear, and is surrounded with sparkling marcasite stones.
The cameo can be worn as a brooch or as a pendant as there is a bail that folds away when worn as a brooch. Based on the headband with feathers and the marcasites, my opinion is that this cameo brooch dates to the late Edwardian era or early 1920s.
Signed/Mark: The first number on the mark isn’t stamped well so please be sure to look at the detail photo to decide for yourself. (Noted above in the description, as well.)
Condition: In excellent condition. All marcasites are present, the safety clasp is in fine working order, and the pendant bail folds and unfolds nicely.
